As the interview ended Dyer leaned in towards Max in a show of affection but the dog bared its teeth and snapped at the news anchor before owner Michael Robinson was able to restrain it. YPF is currently under Spanish control. Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez said on Monday her administration will present a bill to Congress aimed at taking control of the country's biggest oil company. YPF, controlled by Spain's Repsol, has been under intense pressure from the center-left government, and its share price has plunged due to months of speculation about a government takeover. Fernandez said the government would ask Congress to approve a bill to expropriate 51 percent of the energy company. [Cristina Fernandez, Argentine President]: "Continuing with this policy of emptying out, of not producing, of not exploring for oil would practically make our level of growth not viable for our industry and workers." Of the expropriated shares, the government would hold 51 percent and the country's oil-producing provinces would get the rest. Fernandez tried to avoid tagging the takeover as "nationalization" and said, if the bill passes, the government will run the company in a "professional way." [Cristina Fernandez, Argentine President]: "The model we have chosen is not a model of nationalization. I want that to be clear. It's a model designed to recover our sovereignty, to control a fundamental instrument but maintain the laws of a public limited ...

Argentina wants Falklands flights switch 02.03.12
The Argentine President Cristina Fernandez says she wants to renegotiate an agreement with Britain on flights to the Falkland Islands from South America. Air travellers are currently served by weekly flights from Chile but Ms Fernandez wants the air link to be operated by Argentina's state-owned airline direct from Buenos Aires. She has asked her foreign minister to renegotiate the 1999 agreement with Britain allowing flights from Chile to the Falklands. Since the existing agreement was signed, Chilean airline LAN has offered a weekly flight between Chile and the British-controlled South Atlantic archipelago. "We're going to ask for negotiations in order to have ... flights leaving from mainland Argentina - Buenos Aires - to the islands in our flag carrier, Aerolineas Argentinas," President Cristina Fernandez said in a speech to Congress. She has asked Aerolineas Argentinas to make plans to fly to the Falklands.

Britain to send war message to Argentina
Britain to send war message to Argentina
In a bid to secure its last outpost in South America, the British government is to deploy its most sophisticated warship to the occupied Falkland Islands to give a clear war message to Argentina. The Ministry of Defense revealed that destroyer HMS Dauntless will sail to the South Atlantic in order to substitute frigate HMS Montrose in the coming weeks. It was claimed that the deployment was long planned but the decision is evidently put in practice when a war of words between Argentina and Britain over the disputed Falkland islands (known as Las Malvinas to Argentina) has intensified. Tory MP Julian Brazier, who is also a defense select committee's member, stressed that Britain's move will send a "powerful and timely message" to the Argentina government that UK "means business when it comes to defending the Falklands." While repeating UK government's colonial policy, Brazier said, "These islanders want to remain British and any oil or gas found in its waters will be British." The islands, located about 250 nautical miles from Argentina, have been a British colony for over 180 years. However, Argentina also claimed sovereignty as it controlled the islands before, and the two countries fought a destructive 74-day war over the islands in 1982. As 30th anniversary of the Argentina-Britain war nears, the dispute over the territory is heating up once again. The British government is attempting to prevent any counter-move taken by Argentina to reclaim its occupied islands ...

Falklands: The Islanders Story (2007)
Argentine troops marched into the Falklands on 2nd April 1982. The invasion unleashed a seventy-four day war in which 255 Britons and 655 Argentineans would be killed. This two hour documentary tells the Falklanders' own story, revealing was it was like to live under a brutal military occupation. The men and women who lived through the war tell their stories of curfew, arrest, deportation and resistance. The documentary features a detailed appraisal of the political situation that preceded the war, as the islanders themselves discuss the heated international climate of the 1980s. Unique video footage shot clandestinely by the Falklanders sits alongside extensive archival footage of the occupation shot by the Argentine news cameraman Eduardo Rotondo. The documentary looks at how the dramatic events of 1982 have altered the landscape we see on the islands today. The Falklands are now scattered with minefields; they lie in dangerous areas shut off with barbed wire. The documentary also outlines the exuberant moment of liberation, and deal with the happenings and unanswered questions of the post war period.
